It is a vicious cycle isn't it? The person you love doesn't love you and you don't love the person who loves you. Why are we always running behind the unattainable? What is it about the forbidden fruit that draws our hearts and minds to it? I've been trying to cipher the meaning of this tendency of humans, but I've failed every time. Having gone through the pangs of unrequited love myself, i know what it feels to be rejected, rebuked and thought of as the one who won't make it big in the field of love. Though i was unable to draw attention and i was practically invisible when presented as a potential partner. I gained a lot of invaluable life skills because of my encounters with these individuals.
The main after effect of falling into an unrequited love affair is constantly fantasizing about a scenario in which you get a Cinderella story ending, where your perfect prince is kneeling before you with the metaphorical glass slipper in his hand. This leads to bouts of forgetfulness, feelings of depression and in general a considerable low self-esteem. But thankfully i was able to take away something fruitful from each of them. I had three, mind you three solid unrequited love affairs. If it is three, that is, in plural, I'm sure it isn't true love. It is just the idea that the Bollywood movies have deeply etched into our brains since childhood, of a tall, handsome hunk coming to life. Sure he seems like the perfect candidate, who'd sweep you off your feet, but is he really the one?
The one who says you are not good enough, just by judging you on your exterior beauty, the one who says yes to someone better looking than you or the one who keeps you on the hook just because he doesn't have the balls to either end it or commit to it?
Which one of them is the perfect partner? None...They were just a face for my fantasy prince. They were never the real deal. The person, who wants to be in your life, will make an effort to do so. He'll know everything about the big and small decisions governing your life. Even if he is busy with his life, he'll spare a few minutes just to know how well you are striving in yours. And last but not the least ladies, when you look in his eyes you'll know that you won't have to be jealous about anyone ever again. Because in his eyes you'll find, a never fading love, admiration and respect just for you.
And when you find that guy, all this hurt, pain and your unrequited love affairs won't matter, because all the wounds will be healed and you'll look back on those days and thank your stars that none of them fell in love with you.
Because if they had, you wouldn't have been able to finish the journey that you started , that led you to this, this beautiful end , that is love.
